Before we stretch a single muscle or tone a single line on our faces, we lift our hands and we start tapping.

I use this tapping practice at the very beginning of my sessions for a reason. I’ve found that it is the fastest, most effective “bridge” to cross from the chaos of the day into the peace of our practice. Without it, we are often just moving a stressed body; with it, we are finally inhabiting a calm one.

Today, I want to explain why this simple gesture on the top of your head is the ultimate “reset button” for your nervous system and your beauty.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupressure, the very top of your head is not just a patch of skin. It is one of the most powerful energetic and physiological centers in the human body. This point is called Bai Hui (Governor Vessel 20), which translates to the “Point of a Hundred Meetings.”

Why is it called that? Because it is the highest point on the body where all the “Yang” energy, the active and rising energy, converges. Think of it as the summit of a mountain. Everything that happens in your body eventually sends a signal toward this peak.

When we live in a state of constant stress, our energy “rushes” upward. This is why when you are overwhelmed, you feel heat in your face, tension in your forehead, and a “heavy” or “foggy” feeling in your brain. Your energy is stuck at the top with nowhere to go. It’s like a pressure cooker without a valve.

By tapping on Bai Hui, you are manually opening that valve. You are telling your system: “The traffic jam is over. You can flow back down now.”

       Table Of Contents

What Is Actually Happening?
Tapping and Face Yoga
Gateway to Yin Yoga
Calming the System Before Sleep
Your Detailed 8-Minute Practice + video

What Is Actually Happening?

You might feel a bit silly drumming on your head with your fingertips, but underneath the surface,

a complex biological conversation is happening.

Hacking the Vagus Nerve Your nervous system has two main modes: Sympathetic (Fight or Flight) and Parasympathetic (Rest and Digest). Most of us spend 90% of our day in “Fight or Flight.” We are subconsciously waiting for a “lion” to attack: whether that lion is an email, a bill, or a stressful thought.

Tapping creates a physical vibration. This vibration travels through the skin, the fascia, and the skull. It sends a message to the amygdala, the part of your brain that processes fear. The message is simple: There is no lion. We are safe. This physical touch lowers cortisol levels almost instantly.

The Piezoelectric Effect This sounds technical, but it’s fascinating. Your bones and connective tissues (fascia) have “piezoelectric” properties. This means that when you apply mechanical pressure (like tapping), you generate a tiny electric charge. This charge helps clear energetic “blocks” and improves the way your cells communicate with each other. When you tap your head, you are literally “recharging” your internal battery.

Moving the Lymph and Blood Your scalp is often one of the most neglected parts of your body, yet it is packed with blood vessels and lymph nodes. Stress causes the tiny muscles under the scalp to contract, cutting off easy circulation. Tapping acts like a mini-massage. it wakes up the blood flow, bringing oxygen to your brain and helping the lymphatic system drain away the “trash” (toxins) that make us feel tired and puffy.

Tapping and Face Yoga

If you follow me, you know I love Face Yoga. But here is the truth that many people miss: you cannot effectively tone or smooth a face that is “locked” by a stressed nervous system.

Your facial muscles are not isolated islands. They are part of a giant web of tissue called the Superficial Back Line. This line of fascia starts at the soles of your feet, runs up your back, over your skull, and ends right at your eyebrows.

The “Tension Helmet” Effect Imagine you are wearing a helmet that is two sizes too small. What happens to your face? Your eyebrows get pushed down, your forehead wrinkles, and your jaw clenches. This is exactly what stress does to your scalp.

If you try to do Face Yoga exercises while your scalp is tight, you are fighting against yourself. It’s like trying to iron a shirt while someone is still wearing it and moving around.

By tapping the top of the head first:

You release the tension in the scalp.

The “helmet” loosens.

The forehead muscles (frontalis) can finally relax and smooth out.

Your Face Yoga movements become 50% more effective because the muscles are actually “free” to move correctly.

Gateway to Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is about deep surrender. It’s about staying in poses for a long time to reach the deep connective tissues. However, if your mind is racing at 100 miles per hour, your muscles will “guard” your joints. They won’t let you go deep because they don’t feel safe.

Tapping the Bai Hui point before or during your Yin session is like a bridge. It moves you from the “Active/Yang” world of doing into the “Quiet/Yin” world of being. It drops your heart rate and prepares your tissues to melt.

If you do a Yin pose like Child’s Pose and tap the top of your head while you are down there, you are doubling the grounding effect. You are telling your body: “It is okay to be heavy. It is okay to let go.”

L’Éclat Intérieur is a reader-supported publication. The way you go to sleep determines how you wake up.

If you scroll on your phone and go to bed with a “high-pressure” brain, your body stays in a state of low-grade stress all night. You don’t get deep REM sleep. Your skin doesn’t repair itself (this is when “beauty sleep” actually happens!). You wake up with “corticoid face”, puffy, tired, and gray.

The Bedtime Tapping Ritual When you tap your head before bed, you are performing a “brain dump.” You are physically shaking off the day.

Melatonin production: By lowering cortisol through tapping, you make it easier for your body to produce melatonin naturally.

Jaw relaxation: Most people grind their teeth at night because of head tension. Tapping the crown releases the pressure that leads to a clenched jaw.

Cellular Repair: When the nervous system is calm, your body can focus its energy on repairing your skin and your organs instead of “surviving” imaginary threats.

Your Detailed 8-Minute Practice + video

I want you to try this. Not tomorrow. Tonight.

Minutes 1-2: The Physical Check-In Sit on the edge of your bed or on your yoga mat. Close your eyes. Don’t try to breathe in any special way yet. Just feel. Where is the tension? Is it behind your eyes? Is it in your neck? Feel the weight of your body. Acknowledge that the day is finished. Whatever you didn’t do today can wait for tomorrow. For these 8 minutes, you have no job, no responsibilities, and no past. You are just a body breathing.

Minutes 3-5: The Tapping (The Core) Bring your hands up. Use the pads of all ten fingers. Start tapping the very top center of your head. Use a rhythm that feels good, not too fast, not too slow.

The Sensation: Feel the “thud” of your fingers. It should feel resonant, like a drum.

The Movement: Don’t stay in one spot. Move your fingers slightly forward toward your hairline, then back toward the base of your skull, then back to the center peak (Bai Hui).

The Visualization: As you tap, imagine a golden light or a cool stream of water entering through the top of your head and washing down your face, your throat, and your chest.

The Release: If you feel the urge to sigh, yawn, or take a deep breath, DO IT. Keep your eyes closed. You will feel a tingling or a “buzzing” on your scalp. That is the increased blood flow and energy. Focus on your forehead. Feel it getting wider and smoother. Focus on your eyes. Feel them sinking back into their sockets, soft and relaxed. Focus on your jaw. Let your teeth part slightly. Now, the most important part: The Inner Smile. Let a tiny, soft smile form on your lips. This isn’t for a photo. It’s for your brain. This smile releases a final dose of “feel-good” chemicals (endorphins). Stay in this feeling. Feel how quiet it is when you aren’t “time traveling.”

We live in a world that tries to sell us complicated machines and expensive routines. But the most powerful tools are the ones you were born with: your hands, your breath, and your attention.

The system wants you to stay disconnected. It wants you to stay in the “chair trap,” staring at a blue light, worrying about a future you can’t control. This 8-minute practice is your rebellion. It is your way of saying: “My peace is mine. My body is mine.”

When you tap your head, you aren’t just doing a beauty trick. You are practicing self-stewardship.
